Top 5 Flowers for Spring

By Lisa Tomita

The weather is getting warmer and the best way to brighten the atmosphere at home this Spring is with flowers.  These 5 plants look great in the garden and even better as cut flowers.

5. Sunflowers

Sunflowers come in many different varieties ranging in color and size. Geoff Nielsen, Director of Marketing at Boulevard Florist Wholesale Market in Lawndale California, said: “Most are easy to grow and last weeks in a vase.”

2. Gerbera Daisies

Gerbera Daisies are quite possibly the cutest flower there is. Hardy, and easy to grow, “Gerbs” come in almost every color.

1. Alstroemeria

Commonly seen in arrangements in grocery stores, Alstroemerias come in a variety of colors and patterns.  “Literally the only color these flowers don’t come in is blue,” Nielsen said.  “And the best part is these flowers are popular with hummingbirds.”
